Catherine Malandrino named her Fall 2010 collection “KHAN”.  Her initial inspiration: A vision of the Earth from space; the landscape, the texture and the contrast of colors between land and sea.

Models perched on tall pedestals were reminiscent of “Where The Wild Things Are“.  It felt primal in nature with fur, shearling, zebra and leopard prints and goat hair.  Animal skins were wrapped tight to the body in dark earth tones creating a cocoon warmth.  There were looks of distressed leather and fringe and embroidery embellishments added to the organic untamed nature of the looks.

To take us from day to night there were also blouson dresses and plissé gowns.  The primary color palette was cerulean blue, burnt orange and mineral tones of black, browns and khaki.  Bell necklaces and earrings adorned the evening wear reminding us that the Malandrino woman is daring, sensual and timeless.

Cashmere tunics and oversized wool boucle sweaters created a balanced collection.  Wool pants were loosely draped.  Everything was layered and heavily accessorized reminding us that this was a fall/winter collection meant to brave the elements and win.  This French Designer showed she is fierce and feral. Even the shoes, which were hoof-like, had a savage feel.

I think Catherine herself put it best when she said, “I want to bring softness and refinement to the urban feminine wardrobe and to help the woman show her individuality through her unique clothes.”
