Jason Wu releases sketch for Target Collection

Target has chosen it’s next designer to collaborate with.  It is a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama.  Jason Wu, who was born in Taiwan and studied fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design, will design a limited-edition capsule collection for the discount retailer set to launch on February 5th, 2012 and run through March 6th both in stores and online at Target.com

Jason Wu first became a household name when he designed the white one-shoulder dress seen on Michelle Obama at the White House Inaugaural Ball in 2009. The gown is now on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

Jason Wu has quickly established himself as one of the most influential designers of today,” says Trish Adams, senior vice president of apparel and accessories for Target.

The collection will consist of apparel ranging in price from $19.99 to $59.99 as well as handbags and scarves that will retail for $19.99 to $49.99.

My collection for Target embodies my signature aesthetic of feminine sophistication, with a mischievous nod to the 1960s,” says Wu in a statement. “I’ve had an incredible experience partnering with Target and I am looking forward to bringing these affordable designs to women across the country.”

The first sketch was released for the LBD and Wu created a teaser video which he placed on his website.

Let’s hope this collaboration does not bring Target.com crashing down like the most recent collaboration with Missoni.
