Milly Fall 2013 RTW

Inspired by lights of New York City Illumination was the name of Milly’s new collection.  On February 13 at The Stage at Lincoln Center in New York City Michelle Smith, designer and founder of MILLY, presented her Fall/Winter 2013 RTW collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Drawing inspiration from the beauty of the urban landscapes at night, Smith’s photorealistic prints glowed against a rich palette grounded in glistening charcoals and metallic blacks.  Innovative fabrics and textured layers set the foundation for a collection of elevated iconic sportswear silhouettes.

Collection highlights included laminated hologram pullovers and pencil skirts, menswear-inspired bonded wool overcoats and acid wash stretch plongé leather bomber jackets.  Embossed studded leather, metallic fringe taffeta and luxurious oversize hardware added an angle of modernity to the collection.

The label epitomizes bold, advanced contemporary fashion with a graceful edge. Michelle Smith, who studied at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, worked at the Hermès boutique to help fund her education.  She was the first American Hermès employee sent to work in Paris with the legendary fashion house after requesting an internship.

MILLY, which launched in 2011, has successfully expanded, beyond ready-to-wear, into handbags, small leather goods, MILLY Cabana swimwear and MILLY Minis childrenswear collection inspired by Smith’s daughter Sophia.

Celebrities including Beyoncé, Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mila Kunis and Sofia Vergara are loyal fans of MILLY.
