Reem Acra Fall 2013

Mixed with an urban sensibility, recent travels to Japan were on the mind at Reem Acra for Fall 2013. Also a series of photographs from the artist Daido Moriyama featuring abstracts of the female body in fish net stockings, serve as inspiration for fabric layering, combining such elements as prints, signature embroideries, and leather. And like Moriyama, the palate is focused and restrained in black and white with bold strokes of red. Playing with volumes ranging from luxurious, to lean and sculpted, traditional kimonos, bombers, and narrow column dresses are woven together to create a nod to the past, yet focusing on the needs of today’s modern woman.

Fishnet was cleverly juxtaposed with a black slashed open back crepe gown, a black embroidered gown and some cocktail dresses.  The homage to Japanese culture was seen in the dominant use of black, white and fierce red color palette.

The final two looks were made to be photographed on a red carpet.  The ivory tulle ball gown with black embroidered detail and the see through fishnet overlay was pure couture at it’s finest.  The closing look was a black tulle ball gown with red hand embroidered detail that was voluminous and illusive with the mesh detailing as seen above.

Truly a beautiful collection.  Sitting front row was “Grey’s Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl, Patricia Field, Robert Verdi and Miss J Alexander.
