Recently I was made aware of this remarkable woman creating remarkable jewelry. Her name is Barbara Ross-Innamorati and she is a self-taught artisan hailing from Westport, Connecticut. In 2009 Barbara launched her own custom designed one-of-a-kind jewelry boutique named Évocateur which features cuffs, pendants, earrings, belts and bangles. Borrowing from an 18th century Italian gilding technique she has developed a proprietary way to work with and create 22K gold leaf brilliance in her pieces. Gilding together the old with the new the collection is a blending of the ancient with a modern contemporary style.
This dream began with an “Open See” at Henri Bendel which first launched by line by providing Barbara the opportunity to showcase her designs at seven trunk shows. From there her business took off and now her jewelry can be seen on celebrities and in high fashion magazine editorials.
The collection is broken into categories all of which have a name that evokes mystery and intrigue. One of my favorites in the collection right now was designed by Barbara’s Daughter is named Catacombs. It is one of the newest collections and features photos of skeletons and bones, definitely with a goth feeling these pieces are certainly head-turners. The pendants are all one-of-a-kind designs crafted from 22K gold and imprinted with skeletons.
A trip to Africa is the inspiration behind the coveted collection called Humphrey’s Safari. This line pays tribute to Humphrey Gumpo, a Photographer and Tour Guide, whose efforts improve life for a group of school children in western Zimbabwe. The cuffs are etched with giraffes, zebras, rhinos and leopards. A standout piece from the collection is the Safari Time 22k gold leaf cuff adorned with a watch and safari images.
A huge trend we are seeing in retail for Spring/Summer 2013 and at the Resort Shows showcasing 2014 is florals. Jeans are now in floral prints, flats are being spotted on the streets with floral canvas and throwing on a floral scarf can take an outfit and dress it up with classic romanticism. Floriculture pieces can now take your look one step further with french tulips, blue hydrangeas, poppies and more. Handcrafted these vintage inspired cuffs are a modern take on a modern trend.
Évocateur introduces new collections 4x/year in line with Market Week. All jewelry and belts are custom made so each piece may vary slightly.
What’s next for this dynamic line of jewelry? Possibly a collaboration with a Fashion Designer?
