All the sandals in her collection are named after Greek women who have served as both role models and an inspiration in their country. Corinna’s sandals were so attractive we caught up with her to ask some questions about herself and her company. See what she had to say.
When did you first realize you were destined to work in footwear design?
To be honest I don’t think I ever realized it. I just pursued my dream and that is why I am so passionate about my job.
Where did you go to school?
I did my MBA in Bentley college and I did a certificate in International Management at Harvard.
How did you get your start?
When my daughter was born in 2011 I decided that I did not want to return to the corporate environment and that I would like to get involved with fashion. I was really excited of the idea to create and start a business on my own. I am involved in every part of the process, from designing the sandals, to promoting them and organizing the logistics. I really love it.
When was Corinna Saias launched?
After almost two years of working the idea in my mind I finally launched my sandals collection in September 2013 and it’s the most exciting thing I have done so far.
I see your sandals are manufactured in Greece – Do you travel there frequently?
I travel in Greece approximately 2 times per year. I love going there because I have a family and friends and obviously because my sandals are being produced there.
How did you learn to work with Swarovski crystals that embellish your sandals?
I wanted to bring to life a product line that would make women feel chic and glamorous all day while maintaining maximum comfort. This is how the idea of working with the Swarovski crystals started. Then I sat down with different craftsman to discuss my ideas and produce the end result that you see today.
Who do you credit for mentoring you?
My husband really supports me in pursuing my dream. He has been giving me the best advice in how to handle the different difficulties that come with the territory of operating your own business.
Where do you draw your inspiration and ideas from?
Women around the world are the true inspiration behind my sandals. I have met really interesting and wonderful people from different countries. My objective is to blend the influences and flavors in my designs and create these unique ultra-chic sandals.
What is your design aesthetic and who is your customer?
Minimal but yet chic. The Corinna Saias sandals are handmade and are designed for women that want feel glamorous all day; from their morning activities until their night gateways while maintaining maximum comfort.
I understand you have traveled extensively. What were some of your favorite places you visited?
My top three favorite places would be Tanzania in Africa, Mykonos in Greece and Los Roques in Venezuela. All these three places are paradise on earth.
Who/What is your muse?
My muse is real women. I admire how women, through times, have celebrated life and family.
What was your biggest hurdle in launching your company and how did you overcome it?
Finding the right manufacturers,not only for my sandals but also for accessories. The way I overcame it was to do thorough research and try different craftsman.
Is it difficult balancing work and family?
It is but on the other hand I am very fortunate because having my own company I can work around my own schedule.
Any plans for expansion? Adding leather handbags or accessories?
Yes the collection for 2015 will have some surprises. Stay tuned!
