Madonna performs at the Superbowl

After all the hype about the halftime performance at the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 5, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana we finally got to see Madonna come to life on stage. Dressed in Givenchy Couture gold and black she made quite an entrance glimmering in a gold cape. Her roman goddess/viking theme was accessorized with jewels by Bulgari and a custom Philip Treacy headpiece.

For 12 minutes the Material Girl kept us in “Vogue” and entertained like a true superstar lighting up the field with her team of performers and a marching band.

“Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honor for me to be a part of yet another historical and iconic moment,” said Riccardo Tisci
“People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us Music, but also to make such a statement of Performance and Fashion,” Tisci added.

The icing on the cake was watching Madonna with Nicki Minaj, dressed in a cheerleader uniform, and M.I.A. perform “Music” and “Give Me All Your Luvin”. Does it get any better?

On Sunday, January 29th the 18th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards took place at the The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the Screen Actors Guild Awards®, which made its debut in 1995, has become one of the industry’s most prized honors.

The red carpet arrivals were covered by E! Red Carpet and even though this month brought the People’s Choice Awards, the Critic’s Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards this night was still a stunning display of gowns on the red carpet. The designer darling of the evening was Marchesa who dressed Viola Davis, Stacy Kiebler and Sofia Vergara for their photo-op. One of my favorites on the red carpet was Rose Byrne of Damages who was not afraid to take a risk wearing a crystal V neck Elie Saab F/W 2009 jumpsuit. I also have to laud 14 year old teen Ariel Winter who is best known for her current role as Alex Dunphy in the TV series Modern Family for walking the red carpet like a true star. The one who made me stop and stare when she stepped out of the limo was Emma Stone who chose black Alexander McQueen for her dress, bag and shoes.

22 year-old Country Superstar and Grammy winning artist Taylor Swift with her long blonde curls standing at 5’10 inches has sold out entire stadiums worldwide. She has won 100 awards to date including 5 Grammy Awards, 10 American Music Awards and 6 CMT Awards.  With her unstoppable spirit and lyrics that speak to all ages she is not going away anytime soon.

Recently Jonathan Van Meter, Contributing Editor at Vogue, interviewed Taylor in a whirlwind day of visiting showrooms in NYC starting out at Rodarte, a label designed by Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy from California.  In the interview Swift refers to herself as that awkward kid always feeling on the outside looking in on the cool kids in school.

“So . . . middle school? Awkward,” she says, launching into the first of many comic riffs. “Having a hobby that’s different from everyone else’s? Awkward. Singing the national anthem on weekends instead of going to sleepovers? More awkward. Braces? Awkward. Gain a lot of weight before you hit the growth spurt? Awkward. Frizzy hair, don’t embrace the curls yet? Awkward. Try to straighten it? Awkward!” She starts to laugh. “So many phases!”

Swift is currently working on her fourth album which she says will be about the heartbreak that life can bring.  The lyrics sounding like they jumped off the pages of a tell all teen diary.

The interviewer concludes by asking Taylor to name some of the life lessons she has learned along the way.  She obliges and says:

1. “If someone doesn’t seem to want to get to know me as a person but instead seems to have kind of bought into the whole idea of me and he approves of my Wikipedia page? And falls in love based on zero hours spent with me? That’s maybe something to be aware of. That will fade fast. You can’t be in love with a Google search.”

2. “If a dude is threatened by the fact that I need security, if they make me feel like I am some sort of princessy diva—that’s a bad sign. I don’t have security to make myself look cool, or like I have an entourage. I have security because there’s a file of stalkers who want to take me home and chain me to a pipe in their basement.”

3. “If you need to put me down a lot in order to level the playing field or something? If you are threatened by some part of what I do and want to cut me down to size in order to make it even? That won’t work either.”

4. “Also, I can’t deal with someone who’s obsessed with privacy. People kind of care if there are two famous people dating. But no one cares that much. If you care about privacy to the point where we need to dig a tunnel under this restaurant so that we can leave? I can’t do that.”

On Sunday, January 15th, 2012 the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards took place at The Beverly Hilton Hotel Hotel in LA.  The entire cast from ABC’s Modern Family was in attendance and took home the Golden Globe for best TV series — comedy or musical.

With such a diverse cast and amazing writers this comedy has grown it’s viewers since it first aired.  I thought I might offer a look into Who Wore What on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards.

On January 15th, 2012 the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.  This has been a week filled with red carpet fashion.  On Wednesday, January 11th the People’s Choice Awards aired followed by the Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday,January 12th.  This evening the same actors/actresses walked the red carpet at the biggest event to date.

The red carpet was filled with gowns hand picked by Celebrity Stylists from some of the most talented couture designers worlwide.  We also saw some amazing shoes by top designers and jewelry from names like Cartier, Fred Leighton, Jacob the Jeweler and more.

There are so many gowns that stunned this evening it is difficult to narrow down the Best Dressed but I will begin with my favorite four gowns of the night.

(From Left to Right)  Evan Rachel Woods channeled the black swan in a feathered Gucci premiere V-Neck gown with Fred Leighton jewels;  Angelina Jolie chose Atelier Versace white with a hint of red accompanied by the best accessory of all Brad Pitt;  Jessica Alba looks like a movie star in Gucci styled by Brad Goreski; New Girl Zooey Deschanel rocks a custom couture Prada green and black sleek gown, worn with Van Cleef & Arpels and white tuxedos painted on her finger nails.

The 17th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards was held at the Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA  on January 12th, 2012.  The red carpet has been walked so many times this week running the gamut from the People’s Choice Awards which aired on January 11th to the upcoming Golden Globes Awards which will take place on Sunday, January 15th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The fashion was more eclectic than the People’s Choice Awards the previous night. Here are some of my top picks who get a nod for Best Dressed.

 (Left to Right) Michelle Williams went avant-garde in a sleek black and white long dress by Chanel;  Charlize Theron wins my vote for best dressed wearing a floor-length Azzedine Alaïa Fall 2011 gown;  Diane Kruger chose a soft pastel-hued Prada gown.

 (Left to Right)  The Descendent’s star Shailene Woodley has certainly grown up since her days as the star of The Secret Life of the American Teenager wearing a fitted Calvin Klein gown; Emma Stone made an entrance wearing a green print keyhole belted gown from designer Jason Wu;  Stacy Keibler looked hot in a Giorgio Armani gown on the arm of date George Clooney.

On January 11th The 2102 People’s Choice Awards were held at the Nokia Theater in LA.  This year Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory was the host.   The red carpet was a mix of everything from pants and jackets worn by the first winner, Emma Stone, for Favorite Movie Actress to cocktail dresses and sequin evening gowns.

A trend of the evening was a sea of green worn by Nina Dobrev who won for Favorite TV Drama Actress and 14 year old Chloe Grace Moretz who took home Favorite Movie Star Under 25.

Here are some of my top pics in the favorite Best Dressed category:

Vanessa Hudgens chose a black sequin Jenny Packham halter-neck gown accessorized with Arunashi earrings; Actress Miley Cyrus is seen walking the red carpet in a white plunging neckline David Koma cocktail dress with side swept hair; Jennifer Lawrence went contemporary in a cobalt blue cutout dress by Viktor & Rolf from their S/S 2012 collection.

Does it get any better than New Year’s Eve in Times Square? The crowds, the celebrities, the hosts and the grammy winning performances.  2012 came in like a lion with Lady Gaga and Mayor Michael Bloomberg dropping the crystal ball. On Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve we waited anxiously to see what would shine the most; the iconic waterford crystal ball atop the pole at Times Square or Singer and Performer Lady Gaga.

As midnight drew near Lady Gaga emerged cloaked in a black cape covered with Swarovski crystals.  She had on a black mask also covered in crystals.  The cape dropped to reveal a black cage worn from the waist up.  As the song progressed she ended in a black catsuit and black mask.  She sung ”Heavy Metal Lover,” “Marry the Night” and “Born This Way” for all her little monsters.

After a short break there was a costume change and Lady Gaga was back to drop the ball wearing a silver Atelier Versace beaded gown.  She accessorized the gown with long gloves and a silver crystal-covered headpiece resembling a night at Mardi-Gras.

This morning following a press conference held in New York City Italian Fashion Designer Valentino Garavani with partner Giancarlo  Giammetti announced the launch of The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum.  Anne Hathaway opened the press conference joined by Franca Sozzani, editor in chief of Italian Vogue and Amit Sood, creator of the Google Art Project in New York City.

The online museum is similar to an app.  It was built by French technology company Novacom and can be downloaded from The Archives.  Once downloaded the experience is controlled by touchscreen or a mouse.

The idea is replicating a visit to a palazzo with white walls and a glass roof exposed to the a “blue-roma cloudstream” and the reflection of natural sunlight. Once launched a red cube with a beautiful Valentino gown starts the 3D tour.  A map opens on the right side of the screen to guide you through 10,000 square feet in a brick-and-mortar museum.  Showcasing over 5,000 dresses, original sketches, a look at some of the celebrities who have worn Valentino Couture over the years and an insider peek into the visionaries behind the brand.

From the map a selection can be made to customize the tour.  The opening choice is the Museum Entrance.  This is followed by Themes & Variations, Very Valentino, Creating Couture, The Other Half, Valentino seen by…, The Library, Muses & Friends, Exhibitions & Events and Maison Valentino.  The archives cover a span of fifty years and about 100 fashion shows so there is much to see.

“It is the first time there as been a virtual fashion museum — and people can interact,” says Mr. Giammetti, explaining the concept of digital “master classes” with Valentino.  ”We don’t want Valentino to be just from the past. We want something alive for the future.”

For students this concept speaks their language and allows them entrance through the use of social media sites such as Facebook and You Tube.  A dress can be dissected and craftsmanship seen up close such as the bridal dress of Jacqueline Kennedy for her marriage to Aristotle Onassis in 1968.

At the press conference Giametti went on to explain that the virtual museum will continue to evolve adding more rooms and new features as technology evolves.

On November 29th, the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show aired on CBS TV.  There were enough feathers to ruffle any tail as 38 models took to the catwalk.  15 models were walking for the first time. As expected all the top supermodels we swoon over made their way down the runway throwing air kisses and striking a pose for the photographers and papparazi cameras.  Veterans included Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Anne Vyalitsyna, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Chanel Iman, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson and Miranda Kerr.

The show took place at the Lexington Avenue Armory in NYC on November 9th.  This year there were six vignettes. ”Ballet,” “Super Angels,” “Passion,” “Angels Aquatic,” “I Put A Spell on You” & “Club Pink.”

Grammy winning Musicians added to the evening’s festivities with special runway performances by Kanye West, Jay-Z , Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj.  See more on You Tube.

Calling all “Little Monsters”!!  Lady Gaga has brought her own fashions to NYC launching a pop up shop located on the fifth floor of Barneys NY Madison Avenue Men’s store.  Gaga’s Holiday Workshop opened on Monday, November 21st at midnight when Lady Gaga herself cut the ribbon outside Barneys NY store to the thrill and fanfare of throngs of fans hoping for a photo op with Gaga herself.

Gaga has identified fashion as a major influence and has been stylistically compared to American recording artist Cher and English eccentrics Leigh Bowery and Isabella Blow. She has considered Donatella Versace her muse and the late British fashion designer and close friend Alexander McQueen as an inspiration, admitting that “I miss Lee every time I get dressed” while channeling him in some of her work. Modeled on Andy Warhol’s Factory, Gaga has her own creative production team, which she handles personally, called the Haus of Gaga, who create many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos. Her adoration of fashion came from her mother, who she stated was “always very well kept and beautiful. “When I’m writing music, I’m thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. It’s all about everything altogether—performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it’s everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us.

Lady Gaga cuts ribbon at Barneys in Chanel Couture

In advance of the sale of the Versace collaboration at 300 H&M stores in the US on November 19th some ground rules have been announced by the mega Swedish retailer H&M.  In order to avoid the chaos that has ensued with previous collaborations H&M is hoping to make this event a more pleasant shopping experience for those who are brave enough to try to score some of their coveted pieces from the capsule collection.  The collection will include womenswear, menswear and products for the home.

Once again H&M will be distributing wristbands to those on the line.  Wristbands will be distributed on a “first come, first served” basis.

Here is a list of rules which can be found posted on the H&M website:

The first 280 in line will receive one of 14 different colored bracelets, 20 people for each bracelet color. On the bracelet you will be given a specific time for shopping in our designated area. The bracelets are only needed for our women’s collection. Customers buying the men’s collection will not require a bracelet. When your time slot arrives, you will enter the designated area to shop for 15 minutes. Our goal is to create a better shopping experience for all of our customers.

If you are not one of the first 280 in line, you will of course have the opportunity to shop from the men’s collection or within H&M. When the 14 groups have finished their shopping we will open up the women’s collection to all of our customers.

To make sure as many customers as possible are able to buy from the Versace for H&M collection, we have a shopping limit. Every customer can buy from the entire collection, but with a limit of purchasing a maximum of two pieces per product, ie not more than two sizes (shoes/garments) or pieces (accessories) per product per customer. The shopping limit covers the entire Versace for H&M collection. Your place in line does not guarantee any items from the Versace for H&M collection.

The stores in the US we are told will open at 8am in the morning but I would suggest a 3 or 4am arrival time if you anticipate receiving a wristband.

For her Spring 2012 presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Gwen Stefani gave us an eclectic mix of RTW garments with her signature touch.  The L.A.M.B. collection was broken down into three parts according to Stefani who did not attend the presentation to the disappointment of her many fans who stood on a long line to enter the venue.

Widely recognized for her trend setting personal style and natural elegance Gwen Stefani created L.A.M.B., an acronym for Love Angel Music Baby out of her love of design and fashion. The brand is defined by Gwen’s innate sense of style which often features a playful juxtaposition between classic hollywood movie star glamour and more modern and casual street influences.

“The first is a Rat Pack group that is very black and white and quite graphic.” said Gwen is speaking of her presentation.  The IKAT prints and mod, retro looks gave off a vibe of the cool girl hanging out on a spring evening.  Some of my personal favorites were the slouchy jumpsuits with cargo pockets worn with large satchel bags, easy to wear and to transition from one season to the next in.  Quilted motorcycle jackets in lambskin leather mixed in a little punk rock.  The silhouette was one of easy street style that could be seen in NYC or on a california surfer girl.

“The second [motif] we’re calling High Voltage because there are lots of bright electric colors.” The towering sky-high platform sandals certainly added some high voltage power to the collection.  The colors scheme was cobalt blue, tomato red, coral, black and electric blue.  There were bold colored short and billowing maxi dresses in horizontal, vertical and zig-zag stripes.

The last theme that influenced the collection was ”Maharaja – an Indian inspiration – loosely weaves in and out.”  The heavy gold necklaces had a luxurious indian cultural feel to them. The fully beaded cotton eyelet jumpsuit paid homage to the indian influence.

This is a show where the hair, makeup and nails have to be discussed.  The hair was styled up into sky-high buns with ponytail extensions woven in.  ”We love the black hair. We love the kohl. And we love that whole exotic element,” said Danilo, lead hairstylist for Pantene.  The models were given cat eyes not unlike what we see on Gwen herself quite often.  There was plenty of mascara and black eyeliner used by Makeup artist Charlotte Willer for Maybelline.  The nails were painted with Essie’s Bobbing for Bubbles furthering playing up the rat pack vibe.

The jewelry was by n0ir for L.A.M.B.

It was a nice departure to view a collection that was simply RTW separates that could be in anyone’s closet from season to season.

Kirstie Alley in Zang Toi

Zang Toi, a native of Malaysia who attended Parsons School of Design in NYC, presented his Spring 2012 elegant collection on September 13th at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  The collection was his “Dream of North Africa”.  With a color palette inspired by the desert consisting of hues of desert brown, ebony, ivory and sapphire blue the designer transported us back to the African desert.

“This collection was inspired by my dream of North Africa. The luxurious and inspiring spirit that I experienced in the entire Arab region when I visited 10 years ago was remembered when I recently read an article on the re-opening of the iconic La Mamounia.” said Toi.

The show opened with a stunning and standout desert silk gazar linen goddess coat bordered with 23K gold leaf worn with a gazar linen strapless jumpsuit.  A favorite look that caught my attention was the use of gold chains that were draped on an ebony handloomed rayon knit short-sleeeved gown.  For a more toned down casual evening out with friends was the black silk jersey T-shirt with gold and sapphire beading that said “Make Love, Not War” worn with a pair of gold metallic leggings.  I could see young hollywood wearing this look.

Zang also mixed it up with some strong ebony menswear inspired smoking blazers with sculpted collars and silk ottoman lean trousers with a silk satin waistband.  The looks were clean and crisp and had a hint of femininity with gold chain accessories.  His aesthetic is timeless and has a wide appeal.

The highlight of his show this season was the finale.  Kirstie Alley, who we last saw on Dancing with the Stars, walked the runway last wearing a size 4 jewel encrusted “one thousand nights & one night” imperial blue coat worn over a sapphire couture silk gazar strapless imperial gown.  She was applauded and the audience looked on with nods of approval for a job well done.

On Sunday, September 18th the 2011 Emmy Awards took place at the Nokia Theater in LA.  The red carpet arrivals were once again the highlight of my evening.  Let’s take a look at Who Wore What.

On Sunday, August 28th MTV hosted the 2011 Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theater in LA.  Whenever you put chart topping musicians together under one roof there will always be a parade of fashion to discuss.  This year’s award show did not disappoint.

I have to start with Nicki Minaj. The hip hop and R&B recording artist looked like she was attacked by stuffed animals and the animals won managing to subdue her.  Then to add insult to injury she borrowed the Tin Man’s costume from The Wizard Of Oz.

Lady Gaga who normally grabs my attention and I must know who she is wearing did a 360 degree turn around dressing as Jo Calderone in a Brooks Brother black suit redefining the menswear trend.  She wore a white tee and stayed in character all evening.

Miley Cyrus looked like she borrowed a dress from her Mom’s closet.  Though I liked the low back the long-sleeved dress by Roberto Cavalli was too mature for the 18 year old actress.  Miley added Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Azzedine Alaia heels.

Now let us move onto the Best Dressed.  Top pick of the night goes to Beyonce who shocked us with her baby bump worn under an orange Lanvin gown worn with Rene Caovilla platforms and platinum colored gems by Lorraine Schwartz.  She looked glowing and every bit the superstar she is.  Beyonce later performed in a purple sequin Dolce & Gabbana jacket and black pants.

I also have to give a shout out to Selena Gomez.  The 19 year old Disney star stunned in a black asymmetric lace Julien McDonald gown with a high neckline. She accessorized with champagne Brian Atwood pumps and a Judith Leiber clutch.

Also making the list is Victoria Justice.  She looked sexy dressed in a short silver sequin Theia dress with Elie Tahari clutch and jewelry by Phillip Press and 88 by Sandy Simonian.

Calling all little monsters!!  Lady Gaga will sit down with famed french fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier in his Paris atelier.  The two will meet for the first time in a CW special called Gaga by Gaultier.  Lady Gaga will receive the guided tour of his studio where they will explore her meteoric rise to fame.  The Grammy winning singer will share backstage secrets and talk about her fans and how she markets herself as both a fashion icon and a performer.

The CW TV special will air on Monday, September 12th from 8pm to 9:15pm ET.  It will be produced by Dak Tirak, directed by Alex Fighter and distributed by Can’t Stop Media.

The interview will serve as the opener for the CW to introduce it’s new Fall lineup.  Maggie Q (Nikita) and Kristoffer Polaha (Ringer) will host from 9:15pm to 10:00pm.

On Sunday, August 7th, 2011 the Teen Choice Awards took place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.  It was a night of hot teens, rockstars and heart throbs.  The red carpet arrivals were streamed live on teenchoiceawards.com.  As always Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were true standouts looking every bit the hollywood stars they are as they walked the red carpet.

Vanity Fair has released their 72nd annual International Best-Dressed List.  The Royals are at the top of the 2011 list with the flawless Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, making the list for the first time. Kate has managed to captivate the world with her classic style.  Other royals include Princess Charlene of Monaco, the King of Bhutan, Princess Alexandra of Greece, Countess Matilde Borromeo, Prince Antonius von Fürstenberg, Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser of Qatar, and Nicolas Mirzayantz of Greece.

Hollywood A-Listers making the cut this year include actresses Carey Mulligan and Tilda Swinton.  Actors Justin Timberlake and Colin Firth were also given a nod.  Risk-takers Lady Gaga and Janelle Monáe received recognition for their eye-catching fashion.

Best Dressed Couple honors go to President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.  Michelle has previously been on the list.

Karl Lagerfeld is an iconic figure in the fashion world.  This Fashion designer, photographer, artist and publisher is bringing his creative genius to Macy’s designing a capsule collection to be sold exclusively in the Impulse department.  Beginning on August 31st, 2011 this line will be sold in approximately 235 Macy’s stores and online at Macys.com.

The Impulse collection will have the signature Lagerfeld stamp on it; rich fabrics and chic silhouettes will create a modern and sleek look.  The price of the collection will range from $50 to $170 and will include dresses, tops, jackets, leggings and more.

“To me Macy’s is the perfect department store in the United States where everybody can find what they’re looking for without ruining their budget,” said Karl Lagerfeld. “That’s why I am happy to make this limited collection just for Macy’s.”

Karl Lagerfeld is the designer behind the Italian fashion houses of Fendi and Chanel.  His previous collaboration was with swedish mega-retailer H&M in 2004.  Lagerfeld has occasionally worked as a costume designer for theatrical productions and photographed editorials for Harper’s Bazaar and Numero Magazine.

“Karl’s collection for Macy’s offers a contemporary spin on his signature aesthetic, featuring versatile, easy-to-wear pieces with a modern twist,” said Nicole Fischelis, Macy’s group vice president and Fashion Director. “His passion and creative genius are deeply reflected in this collection, highlighting his ever evolving perspective to the fashion customer.”

Vogue published a sneak peek in their magazine of a floral dress which will retail for $109.  Macy’s also released some preliminary sketches.

Gwen Stefani, the rockstar and designer behind the label L.A.M.B, is expanding her fashion empire to include affordable clothes for babies, kids and tweens.  Gwen will collaborate on a line of clothing and accessories called “Harajuku Mini” for Target.  The line is set to be introduced in stores and online on November 13th with a second launch taking place in January 2012.

The ”Harajuku Mini” will range in price from $3.99 to $29.99 and will have that Japanese anime-inspired sensibility much like her “Harajuku Lovers” line which she launched in 2005.

“I’ve always wanted to do a cool children’s fashion line inspired by the supercute and playful kid’s clothing you find in Japan,” Stefani said. “Target has given me the creative freedom to design kid’s clothing that is different than most anything you usually see out there with great quality, attention to detail and most of all, available at amazing prices.”

If Gwen’s own 2 stylish children, Kingston and Zuma, are any indication of what is to come this collaboration with Target should be worth the wait.

They came…  They went…  In less than 48 hours Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middeton created a media frenzy with their visit to the gold coast of California.  Everyone waited in anticipation of what Kate would be wearing.  It was rumored that her North American tour would include 40 carefully selected outfit changes.

The Duke and Dutchess touched ground in California on Friday, July 8th.  Kate embarked from the jet wearing a ruched dress in a pale gray color by Roksanda Ilincic. This was accented with a clutch by L.K. Bennett and a pair of nude pumps.  She later changed into a simple belted green dress by American Designer Diane Von Furstenberg to attend a private reception held at the U.K. Consul-General’s home.

Saturday began in Santa Barbara with a polo match in which Prince William took home the trophy.  Kate cheered on her husband in a Jenny Packham floral print dress and L.K. Bennett heels.  Later that evening both attended the BAFTA Brits to Watch Gala where Kate stunned walking the red carpet wearing a lavender Alexander McQueen gown with Jimmy Choo platform sandals.

Their final day was spent in a philanthropic mode with a stop at Inner-City Arts Center for children followed by a visit with veterans.  Kate dressed down wearing a Lina Dobby crocheted navy top , a white flowing skirt, blue suede pumps and carrying a tan clutch.

Kate Middleton did not disappoint.  She is truly as much a fashion icon here in America as she is in England.

YES – you have read the headline correctly.  One of the most iconic Italian fashion houses will collaborate with the swedish mega retailer H&M to design a Fall collection.  Versace was founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace.  His creative vision and talent for design made the House of Versace a top couture brand worldwide.  Donatella Versace, the Creative Director for the brand has continued to evolve the label and will reference the archives to interpret and create collections for women, men and home.

The collection will hit about 300 stores worldwide on November 19th, 2011. The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses that express the spirit of the season, featuring studded leather, silk and colorful prints, and accessories including high heels and costume jewelry. The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo, as well as belts and jewelry for men. For the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, the collection will include homeware pieces including pillows and bedspread.

A pre-Spring collection for H&M will be available online exclusive to countries with online sales starting on January 19th, 2012.

“I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere,” says Donatella Versace.

A press preview was held and here is a sneak peek at a few pieces that will be included in the collection.  Mark your calendar now as I am sure this collection will sell out as quickly as some of the former collaborations, the most recent being Lanvin.

Yesterday I wrote an article announcing the winners of the CFDA Awards 2011. There were some impressive names dropped.  Today I am going to switch it up and get to the all important WHO WORE WHAT.  Many of the fashion designers arrived with their muses; Michael Kors and Miranda Kerr, Francisco Costa and Kerry Washington, Zac Posen and model Sessilee Lopez, and Jason Wu with Model Karlie Kloss.

There did not appear to be a central theme or trend to the CFDA Awards red carpet arrivals.  Some opted for short, some for full length gowns.  There was shimmer and there were bold colors. Lady Gaga was awarded the Fashion Icon award wearing a custom Thierry Mugler bustier, towering platform shoes and a green wig.

The Council of Fashion Designersheld their 2011 awards ceremony on June 6th at Alice Tully Hall located at Lincoln Center, home to NY Fashion Week. This is an event when the brightest and the best are saluted by the fashion industry. Swarovski Crystal underwrites the event and Philip Crangi designed the crystal encrusted Trova Trophies that were presented to all the winners.

This evening served to recognize the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision and lifetime achievement.  This year Anderson Cooper hosted the CFDA Awards.

The 2011 Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 22nd, 2011.  The star-studded event opened with a duet of the “S&M” remix performed by Rihanna in a white leather racy outfit with bondage and Britney Spears in black with a black mask on.

Teen heart throb Justin Bieber, dressed in a gold tuxedo jacket, and Eminem dominated the Billboard Music Awards winning six awards each with the 38-year-old rap artist taking the top honor for Artist of the Year.

The arrivals took place on a white carpet with a white backdrop.  Who sizzled? Top honor goes to Taylor Swift who looked regal and elegant in a strapless sequined Elie Saab gown. Nods also go out to Fergie, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez.

Fergie is wearing a black cut out dress by Hervé Léger.  Kylie Minogue, the British pop star, looked adorable in black Alexander McQueen.

Selena Gomez shows off her legs in a high slit black gown by Dolce & Gabbana.  Rihanna’s red hair really pops against her man tailored white suit by Max Azria.

The best kept secret in the world was finally revealed at 4:30am ET today. Catherine Middleton wed Prince William today wearing a white silk gazar wedding gown with long chantilly lace sleeves designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of the fashion house Alexander McQueen.  The gown had a V-Shaped neckline and a nine foot long train.  A 1936 Cartier tiara accessorized the look, borrowed from the Queen.  Her earrings were the “something new”, diamond drops designed by Robinson Pelham given to her by her parents.  The something blue was a ribbon sewn into the gown.  The shoes were also designed by the house of Alexander McQueen.

Sarah Burton has now been catapulted to the top of the fashion world.  The 36 year old started as an intern at Alexander McQueen in 1996.  Sarah took over the helm of the house after McQueen took his own life.  She showed her own first collection in September 2010.  When asked about the opportunity to design the royal wedding dress Burton replied:

“The last few months have been very exciting and an incredible experience for my team and I as we have worked closely with Catherine to create this dress under conditions of the strictest secrecy. Understandably, Catherine has been very keen to keep the details of her dress a secret, which is every bride’s prerogative, and we gave an undertaking to keep our role confidential until the day of the wedding.”

“It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress…. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship.”

Prince William wore a scarlet military uniform to signify his honorary rank of Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Kate Middleton stood tall and proud through the entire ceremony making us all believe again that fairy tales can come true. She has the grace and poise of a true princess.

Interview with Anya Sarre:  Television Fashion Expert, Red Carpet Celebrity Stylist & Designer:

From celebrity styling and red carpet trend spotting, to being interviewed about this season’s must-haves, Anya Sarre, is the go-to fashion force among Hollywood tastemakers.  I have seen Anya numerous times on television shows such as The Insider and Entertainment Tonight. I was always intrigued by her keen sense to be able to create the “look for less”, something most of us need help with if we do not have a hollywood budget behind us.

I caught up with Anya and wanted to find out the secrets to her success and what she is working on.  She was gracious enough to share her secrets and her insights with me.

When did you first realize you were destined to work in fashion?

When I was in kindergarten, my principal called my mom and said there was a problem because I would change my outfit five times a day and give the other kids make-overs.

Where did you go to college? Any additional training?

I went to USC and studied communication and business, and then I went to Parsons New School of Design for a graduate program in fashion design and trend spotting.

Who did you intern with?

I am a huge believer in internships because they help you find out what you want to do and what you don’t want to do. I interned at PR firms, advertising agencies and on movie sets. They gave me a greater understanding of all aspects of the business that help me tremendously every day.

Who do you credit for “mentoring” you?

I credit my parents for mentoring me. My mom always encouraged me to be creative and follow my dreams. My dad taught me a strong work ethic and to do something I love. They have every single magazine that I’ve been in and they record every single TV show I am on. I am very lucky to have that amazing support.

Who do you feel gave you your first “big break” that contributed to your success?

I credit my first big break to Hilary Duff. I was working on a movie and started working with her. That was a great time in my career, and everything grew from there.

On February 11th, 2011, Lady Gaga released her newest video online called BORN THIS WAY.  In commenting on her song Gaga said “This is the manifesto of Mother Monster.  Thus began the beginning of the new race. The video is directed by Nick Knight, set design was created by Marla Weinhoff. This evening, February 27th, 2011, the biggest night of fashion aired on ABC TV.  The fashion world has been in a buzz for weeks with 2011 Oscar Award fashion predictions.. Who would wear what?  Tim Gunn was the host of  ”Oscar’s Red Carpet Live” for the 83rd Academy Awards held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.  The chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne Inc and Project Runway mentor has announced his top picks for best dressed at the Oscars this year.

Hailee Steinfeld, the True Grit nominee, wearing an age appropriate nude tulle 3/4 length Marchesa gown which she helped to design.

Mila Kunis looks graceful in a lavender chiffon Elie Saab gown.  Accessories include Neil Lane jewelry and a Bottega Veneta clutch.

Marisa Tomei walked the red carpet in a 1950 couture Charles James dress from Lily et Cie. She accessorized with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Jennifer Hudson who is the spokesperson for Weight Watchers looks glamorous wearing a tangerine Atelier Versace dress.

Scarlett Johansson at age 26 donned the red carpet wearing a Dolce & Gabbana lace gown with Anna Hu studs and a ring and Christian Louboutin shoes.

Oscar Host Anne Hathaway rocked the red carpet in her first look of the evening wearing a strapless red ruffled Valentino gown.

On February 17th, 2011 Gwen Stefani closed out NY Fashion Week with her L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 collection.  The front row was filled with TV personalities and top stylists.  Spotted in the first row was Jay Manuel (America’s Next Top Model), Joe Zee (Elle Creative Director) and stylists June Ambrose, Memsor Kamarake and Robert Verdi.

The show was a grand fusion of fashion, film and art. A large screen video created by Sophie Muller became the runway backdrop.  For Fall 2011 the show was divided into six segments.

GROUP ONE: SOLDIER GIRLS

Soldier Girls was a parade of military inspired looks.  The opening look included a leather harness.  This was followed by menswear and camouflage.

GROUP TWO: RAGGA MUFFIN GIRLS

Seen in several shows as a trend this season was a return to Navajo prints. Colors included warm tones of orange, red and yellow like a sunset on a warm summer day.  Rasta hats were a key accessory in creating this vignette.

GROUP THREE: LONDON GIRLS

Rebel Rebel created the mood to watch the collection of British menswear. Evoking thoughts of schoolboys at a parochial school wearing tartan plaid pants and wool jackets Gwen delivered the message and set the tone.  The wide print ties complimented the cuff link shirts and tight leather pants.

GROUP FOUR: BUFFALO GIRLS

Native American inspired prints dominated this segment.  The models looked wrapped in tribal wool blankets.  There were solids and some patchwork print looks.  The hair was a thick messy weave topped by small hats.

GROUP FIVE: MOD GIRLS

A throwback to the sixties the color palette turned to black and white.  There were stripes and mod prints with a disco flair.

GROUP SIX: GLAMOUR GIRLS

Using a black canvas the gold jewelry immediately caught the eye.  The intrinsic draping detail gave us a feel of hollywood glamour.  The golden locks were left long and swept over the jeweled accents.

The show concluded with Gwen taking her walk with a proud son Kingston by her side.  Gwen is one mod Mom.

On January 30th, 2011,  The Screen Actor’s Guild held it’s 17th annual award show at the Shrine Auditorium in LA.  Many of our favorite and most beloved actors and actresses walked the red carpet and gave us everything from feminine lace to blush tones to pops of bright colors straight from the runways. In hair two styles dominated the looks; soft waves or tight slicked back updos. Here are some of my favorite trends on the red carpet.

LADIES IN RED:

Julianna Margulies: Yves Saint Laurent draped gown with dangling diamond earrings and a gold trimmed YSL clutch and a Bavna ring.

Mila Kunis:  Alexander McQueen floral print gown.

Tina Fey: Oscar de la Renta A-line fitted gown with train and floral neckline, Louboutin clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

BLUSHING STYLE STARS:

Eva Longoria: Georges Hobeika white gown with a plunging neckline and her hair in an upswept bun.

Hilary Swank: One shoulder Versace chiffon gown.

Lea Michele:  Oscar de la Renta blush gown with Tiffany jewels.

LOVELY IN LACE:

Dianna Agron: Midnight blue Chanel haute couture tea length dress, Ferragamo black satin platform pumps and Fred Leighton jewels.

IMG Fashion has released the preliminary schedule for Mercedes-Benz FALL 2011 Fashion Week. NY Fashion Week will run from Thursday, February 10th through Thursday, February 17th. This will be the second season that the shows will take place at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.

As last season Lincoln Center will offer three runway venues; The Theatre, Stage and Studio, as well as a fourth presentation space called the Box for designer presentations, industry forums, press conferences and other activities.

“We are proud to welcome so many established and emerging designers to present their Fall collections this season,” said Peter Levy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Fashion. “The goal of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is to facilitate an opportunity for designers and brands to successfully showcase their talent at an event that will further support the growth of their businesses.”

On December 6th Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt walked the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theater for the NYC premiere of her new movie “The Tourist”.  The Tourist also stars Johnny Depp as an American tourist who visits Europe in the hope of mending his broken heart.  While there he meets and has a flirtatious encounter with Elise played by Jolie.

Angelina looks like a grecian goddess wearing a white thigh-high slit Atelier Versace gown with white suede Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.

The Tourist opens in theaters nationwide on December 10th, 2010.

On Tuesday, November 16th, 2010 Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal posed for the photographers at a screening of the newly released film Love & Other Drugs.  The screening was held at NYC’s Directors Guild of America theater.  Anne wore a chiffon white Valentino dress with a long bow at the neckline and sheer make up with pink lips.  Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee said “”When I saw the dress I knew that the makeup needed to be beautiful and approachable.”

Also spotted was director Ed Zwick, Peter Facinelli, Molly Simms, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Designer Valentino Garavani.

Anne is preparing for her stint on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

It started in Season Three of The Rachel Zoe Project as we learned that Styling Director Taylor Jacobson was no longer a part of Team Zoe. That left the Director position open for the always stylish Brad Goreski, who had been the Styling Assistant and Brad was more than ready to claim his new title.

Now it seems that Season Four of the Rachel Zoe Project will return without Brad Goreski. Brad tweeted this evening “Hi everyone! its true. I have decided to go out on my own. I love @rzrachelzoe! she’s been the best boss and teacher! Excited for the future“.

Goreski tells People Magazine ” I love Rachel and she’s taught me everything I know. But there’s a point where either I do it now or I’ll never know what it’s like to spread my wings and soar.”

Brad broke the news to Rachel about a month ago and plans to leave on October 1st.

In learning of his decision to branch out on his own, Zoe said ” We couldn’t stop hugging and we couldn’t stop crying. He did this with such class and elegance. And I get it. I just told him, ‘I’m here for you always.”

Beyoncé Knowles and her Mother, Tina Knowles teamed up with airbrush makeup brand Temptu to design some custom body tattoos for the Fall 2010 ad campaign for House of Deréon. The dou loved what Temptu designed so much they decided to produce and sell the temporary tattoos.  The designs include fleur, bolts and chains, jewels, and spiders for the moment and will be available on November 1st.

They can be purchased for $16 at Sephora, Temptu.com, and Dereon.com. There will also be a deluxe kit for $34 which includes a signed photo of Beyonce and a chance to win a trip to NY for a photo shoot.  A waiting list has been created to purchase the deluxe kit on Dereon.temptu.com.

Tina Knowles told WWD, “We decided to invite Temptu to help us create custom body art for (our) model… The resulting images were so strong that we realised consumers might want to re-create the tattoos themselves.”

In the Spring of 2010 Chanel came out with a line of bird and pearl tattoos which were sold at Chanel and Bergdorf Goodman’s for $75.

André Leon Talley, Vogue Editor-at-Large, and model turned blogger Hanneli Mustaparta will host a live webcast of Fashion Night Out: The Show.  On September 7th, 2010 at 7pm ET CBS.com will live stream the largest fashion show ever in New York City.  Presented by Macy’s and Maybelline New York, 150 top models will gather at Lincoln Center, the new home to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week S/S 2011, to showcase the best of Fall fashion trends.

“As CBS.com continues to be one of the top sites in the entertainment field, it will prove to be the perfect home for an event of this magnitude,” said Anthony Soohoo, SVP & GM of Entertainment & Lifestyle at CBS Interactive. “We are thrilled to be able to allow our millions of users a first look at fall’s hottest trends in addition to inspiring awareness of the much-needed economic stimulus that Fashion’s Night Out provides.”

Fashion Night Out is a global initiative taking place in over 15 countries.  In New York City FNO will take place on Friday, September 10, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.  More than 800 participating stores across the five boroughs will take part staging exciting, one-of-a-kind events in stores open after-hours to the public. Last year shoppers were able to see Sarah Jessica Parker singing standards with Oscar de la Renta, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen tending bar, as well as Michael Kors, Justin Timberlake, Kate Hudson, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani (just to name a few) at various stores throughout NYC supporting the industry.  This year promises even better and bigger events.

CBS will follow their live webcast with a TV special that is set to air on Tuesday, September 14th from 10pm to 11pm ET.  The special will give viewers a chance to take a glimpse into the making of Fashion Night Out.  Cameras will follow celebrities, designers, editors and retailers as they prepare for one of the most anticipated events of the year, providing a unique view of the creative and logistical work that goes into coordinating an event of this magnitude.

On Sunday, August 29th, 2010 Jimmy Fallon hosted the Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

They came out in style to dazzle and impress at the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards.  There were long flowing trains as seen on Sarah Hyland of the highly-nominated comedy Modern Family.  Project Runway judge and supermodel Heidi Klum took a risk wearing a Marchesa mini dress.  Tina Fey stepped up her style game wearing a black lace Oscar de la Renta.

Some of my Best Dressed awards would go to Glee’s Dianna Agron in modern strapless lace gown from Carolina Herrera and Christian Louboutin heels with jewels from Cartier.  A style nod goes out to Kim Kardashian in a white Marchesa grecian style long gown.  Modern Family’s Sophia Vergara is also wearing a strapless Carolina Herrera saffron beaded gown with loose curls complimenting her look.  These ladies shined on the red carpet.

1. Glee’s Dianna Agron is perfect on the red carpet with a double ruffled strapless organza gown by Carolina Herrera. Christian Louboutin heels and over $1.5 million dollars of jewels from Cartier compliment the red carpet look.

Fashion Night Out:  Boutique style uptown

On Friday, September 10th Fashion Night Out will return for a second time with over 1,000 retailers participating and scores of events taking place globally.  Whether you are an uptown socialite or a downtown gal who loves your boho chic look there are more events than ever to pick from.  From 6pm to 10pm New York City will be filled with DJ’s, celebrities, booze and loads of deals and steals at your favorite places to shop.

Let’s break it down for you and help navigate your way to the perfect night of retail therapy at NYC’s finest department stores.

Fashion Night Out:  Department Store style

1.  Bergdorf Goodman:  Expect personal appearances from Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Nicole Richie, Jason Wu, Thom Browne and Simon Spurr.  There will also be a “Face-Off” makeup artist competition. Judges include Catherine Malandrino, Trish McEvoy, Blogger Bryanboy, and Hamish Bowles.  Dog lovers prepared to be (bow) wowed by a canine runway show.  Bibhu Mohapatra, Georgina Chapman, James Mischka and Mark Badgley, Reem Acra, Lela Rose and Thakoon Panichgul will escort their pup down the runway.

Barneys New York: There will be a karaoke contest so channel your American Idol and be prepared to be judged by Proenza Schouler designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough and Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley. You will need to brush up on your ping-pong skills as you face off in a doubles tournament against fashion designer duos such as Rag & Bone’s David Neville and Marcus Wainwright and Shipley & Halmos’ Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos. Meet and greet with the girls behind the euphonious label, Rodarte.

3.  Sak’s Fifth Avenue: Donna Karan, Charlotte Ronson, Victor & Rolf and Zac Posen, as well as Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas are expected.  Watch the designers as they compete in a fashion sketch-off.  Shop, laugh and drink with your favorite designers and celebrities.

On August 8th, 2010 the teen hearthrobs of the year were honored for their work and their general “hotness” at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. This year the award ceremony took place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.  The show is set to air on FOX this evening at 8pm ET.  TEEN CHOICE 2010 celebrates the hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion.

The show was hosted by Katy Perry and the and the Guys of GLEE – Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith and Mark Salling.

The fashion trend on the red carpet was all about the minidress.

Glee star Naya Rivera in vintage.  Twilight’s Ashley Greene in strapless Valentino, Ferragamo heels, a Kilian bag, and jewelry by Stephen Russell.  Emma Roberts wearing an acid green Brian Reyes dress with Brian Atwood heels.

Actress Lucy Hale of “Pretty Little Liars” dressed in a blue Paula Ka dress and spiked booties from Ruthie Davis.  Kristen Bell wore a Stella McCartney red stunner with Brian Atwood “Katie Lee” pumps..  “Ramona and Beezus” star Selena Gomez was a knockout wearing a BCBG Max Azria batwing white dress and Sergio Rossi white clutch and gladiator heels.

Yesterday I wrote an article announcing the designers who would be participating in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.  Today IMG Fashion has announced the preliminary schedule of dates and times for the shows and presentations.

At these shows over 90 fashion designers (both established and emerging) will present their Spring/Summer 2011 collections.  Lincoln Center is expecting 232,000 attendees.

The wedding of the year that was shrouded in secrecy has happened.  On Saturday, July 31, 2010 former first Daughter Chelsea Clinton wed Marc Mezvinsky.

Chelsea Clinton wore a custom Vera Wang strapless silk organza wedding gown with a wide beaded and crystal waistband.  Vera Wang also designed the bridesmaid’s gowns and was a guest at the wedding.  The bridesmaids wore a strapless bias cut lavender chiffon gown with a side drape and contrasting plum bow.

The mother-of-the-bride and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton wore a berry red embroidered silk gazar gown by Oscar de la Renta. Bill Clinton looked handsome as he escorted his only daughter down the aisle wearing a black tuxedo by Christopher Bailey for Burberry. The groom also wore Burberry.

The wedding was held at Astor Court Estates in Rhinebeck, New York.

The guest list included Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen and other esteemed celebrities and politicians.
