Follow me through the forest deep; wrapped in a veil of enchanting mist,
beneath the purple glow of a glimmering moon / In our castle keep, keep safe your heart as you find all you desire.”

Stacey Bendet’s Fall 2014 collection for Alice + Olivia was inspired by the illustrated pop-up books of Benjamin Lacombe. Her presentation at the McKittrick Hotel was titled “Enchanted: A Midwinter Night’s Dream”. Sharp tailoring combined with vintage Victorian charm and bohemian beauty, created a free-spirited decadence.

Suffused with luxe modernity, the collection featured bold brocades, rich velvet, regal lace and opulent metallics, mixed with monarch butterfly motifs. Dreamy prints on tapestry fabrics are adorned with fine filigree amid jewel-toned blue, green and “royal red”. Metallic is the new black, while camel, cream and chocolate served as a rich neutral base.

Romantic collars, lace blouse details, ruffled sleeves and chokers are paired with ultra- miniskirts, slouchy menswear-inspired pants and the new fitted denim trouser – a juxtaposition of the past and the present. Fall 2014 introduced several strong silhouettes including the winter short, tailored flair back jacket, crop jacket and statement coat. Novelty knits added fanciful appeal, and blanket knit coats made for cozy toppers over whimsical printed dresses.

Fall 2014 accessories featured the NYC boot and pump with signature red tread, and novelty bags including the “Owl bag”, “Bear bag” and “Bride clutch”. Long zippers added an edge to thigh high boots, while Victorian-inspired belts and chokers accented RTW looks. All-over crystal embellishment, velvet, fur and caviar beading appeared throughout for a touch of luxury. The eye-catching Makayla shoe in mirror marble leather and beaded lace-up ankle booties provided a perfect counterpoint to the more romantic collection offerings.

Stacey Bendet said of the collection, “This season is about sexiness and fantasy – luxury and decadence in a wearable way.”

She brought us the character of Cinderella who was dressed in a shimmery blue ball gown and we glimpsed Rapunzel who was glowing in a green dress posed on a mossy green meadow in the enchanted forest. Sometimes it is just cozy to be transported back to a time when life was simple and Bendet achieved that with her whimsical fairy tale themed presentation.

Notable attendees included Anna Kendrick, Chrissy Teigen, AnnaSophia Robb, Jamie Chung, Jessica Hart, Bella Thorne, Peyton List, and Julie Henderson.
